That would be cheap. you can skip cutscenes with enter on pc, but i don't know about on controller. If B isnt working you could trying pausing then pressing B. Once you pause it sayings Continue or Skip afaik. I have a similar issue. I try pausing but it isn't suspended mid cutscene. So I can't skip.

The stuff that happens out of the Animus is mostly world building over the course of the entire seris. You do have to get through some of the game before you receive the ship and you will return to the modern era from time to time for a bit, but in the end you'll spend more time in the "game" over in modern era.

AC:Brotherhood and Revelations allow you to skip cutscenes. You do it in the pause menu. In AC1 you can skip some dialogue by jumping at the person just before you activate them, causing them to stumble and cut the dialogue short. In AC2 I don't think you have any options.
